Tennyson Event

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield…
On Monday 27th February Poet in the City, in partnership with Winning Words, launches its series of London 2012 inspired events with a special celebration of the life and work of Alfred Lord Tennyson.
The last lines of Tennyson’s iconic poem Ulysses were chosen last year to be installed as a permanent installation in the centre of the Olympic and Paralympic Village, as inspiration and legacy of the London 2012 Games.
Featuring the ex-Poet Laureate Sir Andrew Motion, and Ann Thwaite one of our leading biographers of the era, the event will explore the poet as Victorian, Poet Laureate and complex genius, with a fascinating contemporary twist that links him directly to 2012, provided by Sarah Weir, Arts and Culture Director of the Olympic Park Legacy Company.
Tennyson is one of the most important poets in the English language. During his lifetime he was considered spokesperson for a nation; in this Olympic year he continues to inspire and excite with public poetry that reaches across cultures in the greatest spirit of the Games.
The event will take place from 6.30pm on Monday 27th February, at Kings Place, 90 York Way, N1 9AG.
Tickets can be purchased online at the reduced rate of £9.50 www.kingsplace.co.uk
